Powerlifters Can Cardio Too

Just doing a little cardio for the heart. I went for a run in my neighborhood today and discovered some cool little places.  Although cardiorespiratory is not my main priority, I’m always trying to focus on becoming a better balanced athlete who is healthy overall. Cue cardiorespiratory training. We all know that cardio can help with fat loss. But even if that is not your primary goal (like myself), regular cardiorespiratory fitness should still be implemented in your daily routine. Not only can it lower risk of cardiovascular disease, it also provides other benefits.

Some of which include:⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Reduced risk of heart disease
  • Lower resting heart rate
  • More efficient breathing
  • Increase in metabolic rate
  • Reduced cholesterol levels
  • Better sleep
  • Lower stress levels⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve been trying to make a better effort to get 20 minutes of moderate cardio in 3-5 times a week. Nothing crazy, just some easy rowing, hiking, light jogging or walking with my kids. Every little bit can help reap some of these benefits. What about you? How often are you doing a little cardio for health benefits?
